Nursing Patient Care

Job Summary

The Caregiver is responsible for providing basic nursing care, personal care, mobility assistance, feeding support, and housekeeping services to residents/patients under the supervision of the Nursing Team and Medical Officer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Personal Hygiene Care

· Assist patients with bed bath and bathroom bath.

· Assist with toileting and elimination needs.

· Apply and change diapers as required.

· Provide Foley’s catheter care as instructed.

· Perform oral and mouth care.

· Provide back care and skin care.

· Assist with hair combing and grooming.

2. Positioning and Mobility

· Maintain proper patient positioning in bed.

· Reposition bedridden patients regularly.

· Assist with transfers from bed to chair and vice versa.

· Support ambulation and walking exercises.

3. Bedsore Prevention and Care

· Observe skin condition regularly.

· Assist in pressure sore prevention measures.

· Follow instructions regarding bedsore dressing and care.

4. Feeding Assistance

· Assist patients with oral feeding.

· Administer Ryle’s Tube (RT) feeding as instructed.

· Administer PEG feeding as instructed.

· Maintain feeding records where required.

5. Medication Support

· Administer oral medications as prescribed.

· Assist with insulin administration as directed by the nursing team.

· Report missed doses or medication-related concerns immediately.

6. Vital Signs Monitoring

· Check and record:

o Temperature

o Pulse

o Respiration

o Blood Pressure (TPR/BP)

· Report abnormal findings to the nurse or doctor.

7. Exercise and Rehabilitation Support

· Assist patients with basic exercises.

· Encourage mobility and rehabilitation activities as directed.

8. Housekeeping Responsibilities

· Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms and surrounding areas.

· Change bed linens and ensure proper bed making.

· Clean patient-use items and equipment as instructed.

· Ensure proper disposal of biomedical and general waste.

· Maintain hygiene and infection-control standards.

Required Skills

· Compassionate and patient-centered approach.

· Good communication skills.

· Ability to handle elderly, psychiatric, rehabilitation, and dependent patients.

· Basic understanding of hygiene and infection control.

· Ability to work in shifts.

Qualification

· Caregiver/Attendant Certificate preferred.

· Nursing Assistant / GDA certification preferred.

· Experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, old-age homes, or home healthcare will be an added advantage.
