Job Description: Splicer – Optical Fiber
Job Summary
The Optical Fiber Splicer is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining optical fiber cables to ensure reliable and high-quality network connectivity. The role involves field work, coordination with network teams, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multi-mode optical fiber cables
Install, joint, terminate, and label fiber optic cables and accessories
Conduct testing using OTDR, power meter, and light source to verify signal quality
Identify and rectify fiber faults, cuts, or signal loss issues
Maintain splice enclosures, patch panels, ODFs, and handholes
Follow network design drawings, route plans, and work orders
Ensure proper cable dressing, bending radius, and protection standards
Coordinate with supervisors and network engineers for task completion
Maintain records of splicing, testing results, and daily work reports
Comply with safety, quality, and company operational guidelines
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of optical fiber splicing techniques and tools
Ability to read fiber layouts and network diagrams
Basic understanding of FTTH / FTTx / backbone networks
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
Willingness to work outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces
Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Qualifications
ITI / Diploma / Certification in Fiber Optics, Electronics, or Telecom (preferred)
Minimum 0–2 years of experience in optical fiber splicing (can vary by level)
Tools & Equipment Handled
Fusion splicer and cleaver
OTDR, power meter, light source
Fiber stripping and cleaning tools
Safety gear (helmet, gloves, harness, etc.)
Work Environment
Field-based role involving outdoor and indoor network sites
May require night shifts, emergency fault repair, and travel
