The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical systems, machines, equipment, and components based on project requirements. This role involves creating 3D models, 2D drawings, performing engineering calculations, evaluating materials, collaborating with manufacturing teams, and ensuring that designs meet performance, safety, and quality standards.
Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
Develop concepts and fully engineered solutions for machines, mechanical assemblies, tooling, fixtures, or automation equipment.
Perform engineering analysis, including stress, tolerance, thermal, kinematic, pneumatic, or hydraulic calculations as needed.
Select appropriate materials, components, and hardware based on functional requirements and cost constraints.
Design custom machines, machine tools, automation systems, conveyors, jigs, fixtures, or production equipment.
Ensure design feasibility by considering manufacturability, serviceability, and assembly processes (DFM/DFA).
Integrate mechanical designs with electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
Produce complete engineering documentation, including BOMs, assembly drawings, detail drawings, GD&T, and design notes.
Maintain accurate revision control and compliance with company standards.
Work closely with manufacturing, machining, and assembly teams to ensure the design intent is achieved.
Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as electrical engineering, controls/automation, procurement, and quality.
Conduct design reviews and present solutions to engineering leadership or clients.
Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
Analyze test results and implement design improvements.
Provide engineering support during installation and commissioning when required.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (or equivalent technical experience for designer/drafter roles).
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD, etc.).
Strong understanding of mechanics, machine design, materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.
Experience with mechanical assemblies, machine design, or production equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and standards.
Experience with automation equipment, robotics, or machine tool design.
Knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems, motors, sensors, and motion control.
Familiarity with FEA, simulation, or tolerance analysis tools.
Hands-on fabrication or machine shop experience is a plus.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Creativity in developing practical mechanical solutions.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
