Key Responsibilities
• Operate die-sinking EDM machines for precision machining of mould cavities, cores, ribs, engraving features, and other intricate geometries.
• Operate wire-cut EDM machines for precision profiling of mould components, punches, electrodes, and inserts as required.
• Set up jobs accurately — electrode alignment, workpiece fixturing, dielectric fluid management, and machining parameter selection.
• Select and set appropriate EDM parameters (voltage, current, pulse-on/off time, flushing) based on material, geometry, and required surface finish.
• Design and prepare electrodes (graphite or copper) or coordinate electrode procurement for die-sinking operations.
• Read and interpret 2D drawings and 3D models to understand geometry requirements, tolerances, and surface finish specifications.
• Perform in-process and post-process inspection using precision instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and surface finish (Ra).
• Maintain EDM machines — dielectric fluid levels, filter condition, electrode wear checks, and daily machine upkeep.
• Follow tool room SOPs, 5S standards, and safety protocols including dielectric fluid handling procedures.
• Maintain job cards and EDM parameter records for traceability and repeatability.
Must Have
• ITI / Diploma in Machinist / Tool & Die / Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–8 years of hands-on experience operating EDM machines (die-sinking and/or wire-cut) in a tool room environment.
• Strong understanding of EDM principles — spark erosion, electrode wear, dielectric fluid, surface finish parameters.
• Experience in electrode selection, preparation, and alignment for die-sinking operations.
• Ability to read 2D engineering drawings — tolerances, surface finish callouts (Ra), geometric tolerances.
• Proficiency with precision measurement instruments — vernier, micrometre, surface roughness tester.
• Ability to independently select machining parameters based on material and finish requirements.
