Job Description: A VMC Operator runs Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs) to precisely cut and shape metal parts, involving loading materials, setting tools, adjusting settings (G/M codes), reading blueprints, monitoring production, inspecting quality with measuring tools, and performing basic maintenance to ensure parts meet specs efficiently and safely. Key duties include setup, operation, quality control, and adhering to safety (5S) and documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation:
Load raw materials, select and install cutting tools, set machine parameters (feeds, speeds, offsets), and run CNC programs.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and understand 2D technical drawings and blueprints to determine machining requirements.
Quality Control:
Inspect finished parts using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers) to ensure they meet specifications.
Programming Support:
Make minor adjustments to G-code/M-code for program optimization or troubleshooting.
Maintenance & Safety:
Perform routine checks, clean the work area (5S), and ensure machine upkeep.
Documentation:
Record production data and machine performance.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Experience operating and setting up VMC/CNC machines.
Ability to read technical drawings and understand machining processes.
Knowledge of G-code/M-code, tool handling, and material properties.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Familiarity with specific controls (e.g., Sinumerik) may be required.
