# Job Description: Tool and Die Maker
## Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tool and Die Maker to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, fabricating, altering, and repairing precision tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in our production lines. You will work from engineering drawings and blueprints, utilizing both manual and CNC machinery to create components that meet exact specifications and tight tolerances.
## Key Responsibilities
• Fabrication & Assembly: Fabricate, fit, and assemble specialized tools, metal stamping dies, injection molds, and prototypes according to engineered designs.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read, analyze, and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD models to plan the manufacturing sequence and material requirements.
• Machinery Operation: Set up and operate conventional and CNC toolroom equipment, including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, drill presses, and electrical discharge machines (EDM).
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair production tooling issues to minimize machine downtime and maintain factory efficiency.
• Quality Control: Inspect and verify the dimensional accuracy of finished components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges.
• Testing & Tryouts: Conduct test runs with new or repaired dies and molds, analyzing the stamped or molded output and making fine adjustments as necessary.
• Safety & Standards: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, strictly adhering to all company safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
## Required Skills & Qualifications
• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of advanced shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry, and basic knowledge of material sciences (metal properties and heat treating).
• Equipment Mastery: Extensive hands-on experience operating a wide variety of manual and CNC metalworking machinery.
• Precision and Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail, with a proven ability to work consistently within tight tolerances (up to ±0.0025 mm).
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to fix complex mechanical tooling failures on the production floor.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy metal components and stand for extended periods in a workshop environment.
## Education & Experience Requirements
• Education: High school diploma/GED equivalent, or a relevant ITI/technical certification in Tool and Die Making or Mechanical Engineering.
• Training: Successful completion of a formal Tool and Die Apprenticeship program is highly preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of professional experience working as a Tool and Die Maker in a precision manufacturing environment.
