Key Responsibilities
PCB Assembly & Soldering
Perform THT and SMD soldering using soldering iron and hot-air rework station.
Assemble prototype and production PCBs according to BOM, PCB layout, and assembly instructions.
Solder resistors, capacitors, ICs, connectors, sensors, headers, wires, and other electronic components.
Perform through-hole component insertion and soldering.
Maintain good-quality solder joints and avoid PCB/component damage.
Handle small and fine-pitch SMD components carefully.
PCB Rework & Repair
Perform component replacement, desoldering, jumper modifications, and PCB rework.
Identify and rectify:
Solder bridges
Cold solder joints
Insufficient/excess solder
Component misalignment
Wrong component placement
Damaged components
Replace defective components without damaging PCB pads or tracks.
Perform engineering modifications to prototype PCBs as instructed by engineers.
Inspection & Testing
Visually inspect assembled PCBs using a microscope or magnification equipment.
Verify component placement, polarity, orientation, and markings.
Perform continuity and basic electrical checks using a multimeter.
Identify assembly defects before handing PCBs over for testing.
Maintain PCB assembly and inspection records.
R&D & Prototype Support
Assist engineers in PCB prototyping and hardware bring-up.
Assemble engineering samples and prototype boards.
Perform PCB modifications based on engineering instructions.
Assist with cable, connector, and wire-harness assembly.
Support engineers during hardware debugging and troubleshooting.
Production Support
Support pilot and low-volume production.
Follow BOMs, drawings, SOPs, and work instructions.
Maintain proper ESD handling procedures.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the soldering workstation.
Maintain component and PCB traceability.
Required Skills
Good practical knowledge of electronics and PCB assembly.
Strong manual soldering skills.
Experience with THT and SMD components.
Ability to operate:
Soldering iron
Hot-air rework station
Digital multimeter
DC power supply
Microscope / magnifier
Basic understanding of electronic components and polarity.
Ability to read PCB layouts and component markings.
Good hand-eye coordination.
Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
Experience soldering 0603/0402 components and fine-pitch ICs.
Experience with SOIC, TSSOP, QFN, SOT and similar packages.
PCB repair and rework experience.
Basic ability to understand electronic schematics.
Experience with sensors, connectors, embedded electronics, and wiring.
Experience working in an ESD-controlled environment.
IPC-A-610 knowledge or certification is an advantage.
Experience in medical, industrial, instrumentation, or automotive electronics is a plus.
Educational Qualification
ITI / Diploma / 12th / equivalent technical qualification in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related field.
Candidates with strong practical soldering skills may also be considered irrespective of formal qualification.
Experience
1–3 years: Preferred.
Experience in PCB assembly, electronics repair, prototype assembly, or production soldering will be an advantage.
Work Environment
The technician will work with GEPL's electronics R&D and manufacturing team in Kanpur.
The work will involve prototype development, PCB assembly, rework, debugging support, and low-volume production rather than only repetitive mass-production soldering.
Performance Expectations
The candidate should be able to:
Produce reliable and clean solder joints.
Maintain low assembly and rework defect rates.
Follow BOMs, drawings, SOPs, and engineering instructions accurately.
Complete PCB assemblies within assigned timelines.
Avoid PCB and component damage during soldering and rework.
Maintain ESD and component-handling discipline.
Identify and report defective components or PCB issues to the engineering team.
