Job Description – Solderman (MV Capacitor Production Division)

Location: Bhosari, Pune
Department: Production – Medium Voltage Capacitor Division

1. Position Overview

The Solderman is responsible for performing soldering operations on MV capacitor elements, foil connections, terminals, and internal assemblies. The role demands precision soldering skills, attention to quality, and adherence to electrical and safety standards to ensure reliable performance of MV capacitor units.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Soldering Operations

• Perform soldering of aluminium foil leads, tabs, and internal connections of MV capacitor elements.

• Solder multiple series-parallel connections as per element design.

• Ensure solid and defect-free solder joints with proper bonding.

• Maintain correct soldering temperature and technique to avoid foil damage.

• Use appropriate solder wire, flux, and tools as per SOP.

B. Assembly & Preparation

• Prepare element leads, foils, and connectors before soldering.

• Clean surfaces to remove oxidation and contaminants for proper solder adhesion.

• Assist in assembly of elements before and after drying.

• Support in fixing terminals, bus connections, and interconnection strips.

C. Quality Control

• Inspect solder joints for:

  • Dry solder

  • Weak joints

  • Excess solder

  • Bridging or improper bonding

  • Cold joints

• Follow QAP and quality inspection checklists.

• Report NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) for defective components or joints.

• Work closely with QC team for continuous improvement.

D. Tool Handling & Maintenance

• Operate soldering irons, hot plates, and flux application tools safely.

• Maintain soldering equipment in proper working condition.

• Clean tips, check temperatures, and follow preventive maintenance routines.

• Keep work area organized and maintain proper ventilation.

E. Documentation & Coordination

• Maintain daily production entries for soldering work completed.

• Coordinate with winding, assembly, drying, and QC teams.

• Follow work instructions, SOPs, and supervisor guidelines.

• Ensure FIFO usage of materials.

F. Safety & Work Discipline

• Follow all safety protocols for handling hot tools, solder wire, and flux fumes.

• Wear PPE (gloves, mask, goggles, apron) as required.

• Maintain clean and hazard-free workstation.

• Ensure safe disposal of solder waste and scrap foil.

3. Skills & Competencies

• Strong soldering skills—especially for thin aluminium foil and electrical joints.

• Knowledge of soldering temperatures, flux usage, and bonding techniques.

• Ability to identify bad joints and correct them effectively.

• Good hand–eye coordination and fine motor skills.

• Understanding of MV capacitor internal connections (preferred).

• Ability to read work instructions, drawings, and assembly diagrams.

4. Qualifications & Experience

• ITI (Fitter / Electrician) or Experienced Skilled Operator.

• 1–2 years experience in soldering operations in electrical or capacitor manufacturing.

• Experience in MV capacitor element soldering is a strong advantage.

• Prior experience in transformer/coil/foil soldering preferred

• It is a Full Time Manufacturing job for candidates with 1 - 3 years of experience.
