Job Summary: In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards. Major Responsibilities: Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Requires a basic knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, 2-D and 3-D CAD, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the discipline. Directly performs the work of designers and drafters of a design group for a business line technology. This work includes the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 3-D Design models and 2-D construction drawings. Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort. Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents. Reviews or defines engineering scope changes, as required, for project management. Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use. Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction. Participates in one or more of the following: a) Equipment layout design and development b) System layout design, including concept sketches and detailed layouts c) Reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data by other engineers or by suppliers d) Preparation or review of engineering studies and reports e) Preparation or review of material quantity estimates f) Uses engineering computer aided design/computer aided engineering (SP3D, PLANT 3D, REVIT etc) tools. Reviews design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors of a moderate degree of complexity and prepares comments and recommendations. Assists in preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs and change orders. Understands roles played by other disciplines on the project. Contacts counterpart in other disciplines, supplier/client representatives and project field personnel when directed, to either gather or give information. Education and Experience Requirements: A recognized diploma / certificate course in an engineering or scientific discipline, with extensive experience in piping layout design and drafting. Experience Level: Minimum of 14 years of working as Piping Designer. Basic skill in oral and written communication. Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the discipline’s design responsibilities. Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria and codes relevant to the discipline. Knowledge of discipline Design Guides, mathematical formulae and design calculations used in the discipline. Knowledge of 3D/2D tools, as applicable to the specific discipline work.
