For a Color Engineer in a masterbatch manufacturing unit, the person should have a strong combination of color science, polymer processing, formulation, and quality control. Since masterbatch manufacturing is highly dependent on color accuracy and consistency, this is a critical technical role.
Technical Skills
Color Matching & Formulation
Strong knowledge of color matching using pigments and dyes.
Ability to develop new color shades based on customer samples.
Understanding of color theory (Hue, Chroma, Lightness, Opacity).
Experience in creating cost-effective formulations without compromising quality.
Pigments & Additives
Knowledge of:
Organic pigments
Inorganic pigments
Carbon black
Titanium dioxide
Optical brighteners
Functional additives
Understanding of pigment compatibility with different polymers.
Polymer Knowledge
Should be familiar with:
PP (Polypropylene)
PE (LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE)
ABS
PS
PET
PVC
Engineering plastics (preferred)
Processing Knowledge
Experience with:
Twin-screw extruders
Single-screw extruders
Pelletizing systems
Mixing and compounding processes
Dry blending
Key Responsibilities
Develop new colour formulations as per customer requirements.
Match customer colour samples accurately.
Optimize formulations for cost and performance.
Approve production batches before dispatch.
Resolve customer complaints related to colour.
Maintain formulation records and standard recipes.
Coordinate with Production, QA, Procurement, and Sales teams.
Evaluate new pigments, carriers, and additives.
Ensure compliance with customer and industry standards.
