Job Summary:
Responsible for ensuring that incoming raw materials, manufacturing processes, and finished products meet defined quality standards, customer specifications, applicable national/international standards, and company requirements. The role involves inspection, testing, documentation, supplier quality management, non-conformance handling, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect and verify incoming raw materials such as steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, and other metals.
Perform dimensional, visual, mechanical, chemical, and material inspections as applicable.
Inspect fasteners, bolts, nuts, washers, threaded components, flanges, elbows, tees, reducers, couplings, nipples, and other pipe fittings.
Verify product specifications against drawings, purchase orders, inspection plans, and customer requirements.
Check dimensions using instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, thread gauges, height gauges, and measuring equipment.
Review and verify Material Test Certificates (MTC/MTR), heat numbers, traceability records, and test reports.
Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, DIN, EN, ANSI, BS, and IS, depending on product and customer requirements.
Monitor manufacturing and inspection processes to identify defects and deviations.
Raise and control Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and coordinate corrective/preventive actions.
Conduct root-cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, and 8D.
Coordinate with production, purchase, engineering, stores, and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
Conduct supplier inspections and evaluate supplier quality performance.
Prepare inspection reports, quality records, test certificates, and customer documentation.
Support customer inspections, third-party inspections, and pre-dispatch inspections.
Ensure proper identification, segregation, and traceability of accepted, rejected, and reworked materials.
Monitor calibration status of measuring and testing equipment.
Participate in internal and external quality audits.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, defect reduction, and customer satisfaction.
Ensure adherence to the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and relevant ISO requirements.
Required Skills & Knowledge
Strong knowledge of steel, metals, fasteners, and pipe fittings.
Understanding of material grades, specifications, heat treatment, surface treatment/coating, and product identification.
Knowledge of dimensional inspection and measuring instruments.
Familiarity with MTC/MTR review and material traceability.
Knowledge of applicable ASTM/ASME/API/ISO/DIN/EN/ANSI/IS standards.
Understanding of welding, NDT, hardness testing, tensile testing, PMI, and other inspection methods is an advantage.
Knowledge of NCR, CAPA, root-cause analysis, 8D, and quality improvement techniques.
Good documentation and report-writing skills.
Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Good communication and coordination skills.
Qualifications
Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Production Engineering, or a related field.
Relevant experience in QA/QC within steel, metal products, fasteners, pipe fittings, valves, fabrication, or engineering manufacturing is preferred.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality-management practices is desirable.
