JOB DESCRIPTION — PRODUCTION & R&D CHEMIST

Position: Production & R&D Chemist
Location: Begrajpur Manufacturing Unit, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh
Department: Production & R&D

Experience: 3–7 years
Qualification: B.Sc./M.Sc. Chemistry, B.Tech./M.Tech. Chemical Engineering or equivalent

Role Objective

To lead formulation development, product trials, production and quality control for home-care and laundry chemical products, while establishing standardized, scalable manufacturing processes at the Begrajpur factory.

Key Responsibilities

1. R&D & Formulation

• Develop and improve formulations for:

  • Liquid Laundry Detergents

  • Fabric Softeners/Conditioners

  • Dishwash Liquids

  • Floor & Surface Cleaners

  • Toilet Cleaners

  • Glass Cleaners

  • Degreasers

  • Disinfectant/Cleaning Products

  • Other institutional & home-care chemicals

• Conduct laboratory trials and pilot batches.

• Optimize formulations for cost, performance, stability and scalability.

• Identify suitable raw materials and alternative suppliers.

• Develop formulations based on customer/product requirements.

2. Production

• Convert laboratory formulations into commercial-scale manufacturing processes.

• Prepare and maintain Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs).

• Supervise batch production, mixing sequence, temperature, pH, viscosity and other critical parameters.

• Ensure correct raw-material dosing and minimize wastage.

• Troubleshoot production issues and batch failures.

• Establish SOPs for manufacturing and cleaning processes.

3. Quality Control

• Test incoming raw materials and finished products.

• Monitor parameters such as:

  • pH

  • Viscosity

  • Appearance

  • Density

  • Active matter

  • Stability

  • Cleaning performance

• Maintain COAs, test reports and batch records.

• Ensure consistency from batch to batch.

4. Factory Setup & Process Development

• Help establish the Begrajpur plant as a systematic chemical manufacturing facility.

• Recommend mixing tanks, agitators, pumps, filling equipment and laboratory equipment.

• Develop manufacturing flow and material-handling systems.

• Implement proper chemical storage and handling procedures.

5. Cost & Product Development

• Calculate formulation cost per kg/litre.

• Work with management to achieve target product margins.

• Continuously identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising performance.

• Develop private-label and customized formulations where required.

6. Team Management

• Supervise production workers and helpers.

• Train operators on formulation, batching, safety and SOP compliance.

• Maintain production discipline and housekeeping.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a hands-on chemist, not only a laboratory chemist. The candidate should be capable of taking a product from:

Formula → Lab Trial → Pilot Batch → Commercial Production → QC → SOP/BMR

Experience in laundry chemicals, detergents, surfactants, home-care chemicals, institutional cleaning chemicals or FMCG formulations will be preferred.

Important Skills

• Strong practical formulation knowledge

• Surfactants and detergent chemistry

• Knowledge of LABSA, SLES, CAPB, non-ionic surfactants, builders, solvents, fragrances, preservatives, polymers etc.

• Scale-up experience

• Troubleshooting ability

• Costing/formulation optimization

• Documentation and SOP preparation

• Strong production-floor execution

Compensation

₹20,000–₹30,000 per month, depending on experience and capability.

Performance incentives can be offered for successful new-product development and production targets.
