Job Description – NPD Engineer (New Product Development) – Sheet Metal & Fabrication Industry

Position: NPD Engineer (New Product Development)

Department: New Product Development (NPD)

Qualification: Diploma/B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced NPD Engineer to manage the complete New Product Development process in a sheet metal fabrication industry. Candidate will be responsible for product feasibility, process planning, cost estimation, prototype development, and successful product launch while coordinating with customers and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities

Ø Handle complete New Product Development (NPD) activities from RFQ to mass production.

Ø Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.

Ø Conduct product feasibility and manufacturability (DFM) analysis.

Ø Prepare process flow, BOM, routing, and manufacturing plans.

Ø Coordinate with Design, Production, Tool Room, Quality, Purchase, and Planning teams.

Ø Develop prototypes and ensure timely sample submission to customers.

Ø Estimate product cost and optimize manufacturing processes for cost reduction.

Ø Identify tooling, fixtures, and gauges required for new product development.

Ø Support APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, and other quality documentation (where applicable).

Ø Resolve technical issues during product development and pilot production.

Ø Ensure smooth transition from prototype to serial production.

Ø Drive continuous improvement for quality, productivity, and cost optimization.

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes such as Laser Cutting, CNC Punching, Press Brake, Welding, Grinding, Assembly, and Powder Coating.

Ø Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

Ø Knowledge of manufacturing process planning and product costing.

Ø Hands-on experience in new product development and process validation.

Ø Good understanding of ERP systems and MS Office.

Ø Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
