Job Summary
The Assay Master is responsible for accurate testing, analysis, and certification of precious metals (Gold, Silver, etc.) in a refinery environment, ensuring purity standards, compliance, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct fire assay, wet chemical analysis, and instrumental testing for gold, silver, and alloys
Determine purity, composition, and weight accuracy of precious metals
Handle sampling, melting, cupellation, parting, and calculation processes
Maintain strict quality control and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Prepare and verify assay reports and purity certificates
Ensure compliance with BIS / NABL / refinery standards
Monitor and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments
Maintain chemical inventory, lab safety, and waste disposal norms
Coordinate with production, melting, and quality departments
Identify discrepancies and suggest process improvements
Skills & Knowledge Required
Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry
Expertise in gold & silver assaying methods
Accuracy, attention to detail, and numerical skills
Familiarity with BIS hallmarking standards (preferred)
Ability to work independently and under pressure
Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting
Experience
Freshers with B.Sc. Chemistry may be considered (training required)
1–5 years experience in refinery/hallmarking lab preferred
