Maintenance Technician

1. Job Purpose

To support the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of twin-screw extruders, mixers, electrical panels and utility equipment at a plastic masterbatch and polymer compounding manufacturing plant.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Electrical Maintenance

• Assist with installation and commissioning of twin-screw extruders, high-speed mixers and auxiliary equipment.

• Inspect and maintain LT panels, MCC/PCC panels, motors, contactors, MCBs/MCCBs, relays and electrical wiring.

• Check heaters, thermocouples, temperature controllers, sensors and control circuits.

• Monitor electrical loads, motor current, earthing and power supply conditions.

• Identify electrical faults and carry out safe troubleshooting.

B. Mechanical Maintenance

• Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of extruders, mixers, pelletizers, pumps and conveyors.

• Inspect bearings, couplings, gearboxes, lubrication systems and rotating components.

• Assist with replacement of heater bands, thermocouples, pelletizer blades and other critical spares.

• Maintain tools, maintenance records and breakdown reports.

C. Utility Maintenance

• Maintain cooling towers, cooling-water pumps, process-water lines, air compressors, air receivers and air dryers.

• Check water circulation, leakage, pressure and temperature.

• Coordinate servicing and repairs with external contractors when required.

D. Safety & Documentation

• Follow electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work requirements.

• Use appropriate PPE and ensure machine guards and emergency stops are functional.

• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules, breakdown registers and spare-parts records.

• Support plant commissioning and safe production startup.

3. Educational Qualification

• ITI in Electrician, Fitter or Maintenance Trade; or

• Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

4. Experience

• Preferred: 2–5 years in industrial maintenance.

• Experience in plastic processing, extrusion, compounding, injection moulding or manufacturing plants is preferred.

• Candidates with hands-on motor, panel, heater, pump and compressor maintenance experience will be preferred.

5. Required Skills

• Basic electrical fault finding and multimeter use.

• Understanding of motors, contactors, relays, overload protection and industrial wiring.

• Knowledge of mechanical maintenance, lubrication and preventive maintenance.

• Ability to read basic electrical drawings and equipment manuals.

• Good troubleshooting, teamwork and record-keeping skills.

6. Working Conditions

• Work at an industrial manufacturing facility.

• Support machinery installation, commissioning and production shifts as required.

• Follow plant safety, housekeeping and maintenance procedures.

7. Performance Expectations

• Timely completion of preventive maintenance.

• Minimum avoidable equipment downtime.

• Safe and reliable operation of electrical and utility systems.

• Accurate maintenance records and timely reporting of breakdowns.
