The CNC Setter is responsible for preparing, setting, and adjusting CNC machines to ensure efficient and accurate production of components. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, performing machine setups, and supporting production teams to maintain high-quality output.
Set up CNC machines (lathe/milling/turning/3-axis/5-axis—customize as needed) based on job orders and technical drawings.
Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, jigs, and work-holding devices.
Load programs into machines and conduct dry runs to verify toolpaths.
Ensure components meet dimensional tolerances using measuring instruments (vernier, micrometer, height gauge, CMM, etc.).
Troubleshoot setup issues, machine errors, and tooling problems.
Optimize machine settings to improve cycle times and tool life.
Maintain machine cleanliness, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance.
Collaborate with CNC operators, programmers, and quality inspectors.
Document setup sheets and maintain production records.
Follow safety protocols and adhere to company quality standards (ISO/TS/IATF etc.).
