Job Title: Industrial Painter
Position Summary
The Industrial Painter is responsible for surface preparation, application of protective and decorative coatings, and finishing of structural steel, BMUs (Building Maintenance Units), gantries, ladders, anchor systems, and other industrial components. The role ensures corrosion protection, compliance with project specifications, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Surface Preparation
Prepare surfaces through blasting, sanding, grinding, and chemical cleaning.
Remove rust, old coatings, oil, grease, and contaminants.
Ensure surface profile meets specification (e.g., Sa 2.5 blasting standard where required).
Inspect and verify surface readiness prior to coating.
2. Coating Application
Apply primers, epoxy, polyurethane, fire-retardant, or specialized coatings.
Operate spray guns (airless/conventional), rollers, and brushes.
Ensure correct mixing ratios and pot life compliance.
Apply coatings to specified DFT (Dry Film Thickness) standards.
3. Equipment Handling
Operate blasting machines, compressors, spray pumps, and coating equipment.
Maintain tools and ensure proper calibration.
Perform minor equipment troubleshooting.
4. Quality Control
Measure and record DFT using coating thickness gauges.
Inspect coating finish for defects (runs, sags, pinholes, holidays).
Ensure compliance with project specifications and client standards.
Follow approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITP).
5. Safety & Compliance
Follow PPE requirements and confined space protocols.
Work safely at heights (BMU platforms, scaffolds, rope access where applicable).
Comply with safety standards (e.g., IS 800, BS EN standards where applicable).
Maintain housekeeping and safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
ITI / Technical Certification in Painting or related field (preferred).
Minimum 2–5 years experience in industrial or structural steel painting.
Experience with epoxy, PU, zinc-rich primers, and corrosion protection systems.
Knowledge of surface preparation standards (ISO, SSPC, or equivalent).
Skills & Competencies
Understanding of coating systems and corrosion protection.
Ability to read basic technical drawings and paint specifications.
Familiarity with DFT gauges and inspection tools.
