Position: Calibration Operator / Flow Lab Technician (Water Flow)

Reporting To: Calibration Engineer / Lab In-Charge
Location: Water Flow Calibration Lab
Job Purpose
To support calibration activities in the water flow laboratory by safely installing, removing,
and connecting flowmeters of various sizes, assisting in automation setup, and ensuring
smooth and efficient execution of flow calibration tests.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Installation & Removal
Install and remove water flowmeters in pipeline test sections using nuts, bolts, flanges,
and gaskets.
Handle flowmeters ranging from DN 15 mm to DN 2000 mm.
Ensure proper alignment of flowmeters to prevent leakage, vibration, or measurement
errors.
Assist in lifting and positioning large-size flowmeters using hoists or cranes while
following safety procedures.
Use proper hand tools and torque tools for tightening and loosening fasteners.
Electrical & Automation Support
Connect and disconnect basic signal wiring (5 wires) to the flowmeter as per wiring
instructions.
Ensure proper cable routing, terminal connections, and tightening.
Support starting and stopping of automation processes under engineer guidance.
Check for loose connections, damaged cables, or improper grounding and report issues.
Calibration Test Support
Assist calibration engineers during flow calibration tests.
Perform frequent flowmeter changeovers to reduce test downtime.
Monitor installation for leaks, abnormal noise, or vibration during tests.
Report any unsafe or abnormal conditions immediately.
Safety & Housekeeping
Follow laboratory safety rules, SOPs, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
Ensure pipeline depressurization before installation or removal of flowmeters.
Wear required PPE such as safety shoes, gloves, helmet, and eye protection.
Maintain cleanliness of work area, tools, and test sections.
Skills & Competencies
Basic mechanical fitting and piping knowledge.
Understanding of flanged joints, gaskets, and bolting practices.
Basic electrical wiring and signal connection knowledge.
Ability to read simple mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams.
Good teamwork, physical fitness, and safety awareness.
Qualification & Experience
• ITI / Diploma in Fitter, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in calibration labs, piping systems, or instrumentation work.
• Freshers with strong mechanical aptitude may also be considered.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Work involves handling mechanical tools and instruments in a water flow laboratory
environment. The role requires standing, bending, lifting (with assistance for large meters),
and willingness to work extended hours when required.
