The Marker is responsible for interpreting shipbuilding drawings and marking steel plates, sections, and structural components according to fabrication specifications. This role ensures precision in cutting, bending, and assembly processes by laying out accurate measurements and reference lines.
Read and interpret ship construction drawings, blueprints, and templates.
Mark reference points, cutting lines, bending lines, and assembly positions on plates and structural steel using measuring tools.
Check material dimensions and shapes before marking.
Prepare templates and patterns for complex components.
Ensure markings conform to required tolerances and quality standards.
Coordinate with fitters, welders, and cutting operators to ensure accurate fabrication.
Maintain marking tools, measuring instruments, and equipment in good condition.
Follow all shipyard safety and environmental procedures.
Fit and align structural steel plates, bulkheads, decks, and frames as per drawings.
Prepare components for welding, ensuring proper joint gaps and alignment.
Use cutting, grinding, and measuring tools to prepare materials.
Install outfitting components such as ladders, platforms, and brackets.
Check completed assemblies for accuracy using levels, squares, and measuring tapes.
Coordinate with welders, riggers, and quality inspectors during assembly.
Identify and report any deviations, material defects, or nonconformities.
Comply with all safety and quality control requirements in the shipyard.
Strong knowledge of ship structures and fabrication techniques.
Excellent ability to interpret engineering drawings.
Proficient in using marking tools, measuring tapes, chalk, scribers, and templates.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and spatial understanding.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Understanding of safety procedures in shipbuilding environments.
Certificate / Diploma in Fabrication, Mechanical, or Marine Engineering.
Minimum 4-7 years’ experience as a Marker in a shipyard or heavy fabrication industry.
Knowledge of steel grades and plate marking systems.
Experience with automated marking systems (desirable).
