Electrical Engineer - Data Center Project Position Overview Seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design, implementation, and oversight for mission-critical data center projects. This role requires deep technical expertise in high-voltage power distribution, backup power systems, and critical infrastructure electrical design. Key Responsibilities Design & Engineering Lead electrical design for data center facilities including power distribution systems, UPS configurations, generator systems, and emergency power infrastructure. Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, and electrical specifications. Ensure designs meet uptime requirements (Tier II/III/IV standards) and comply with NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and local building codes. Project Execution Manage electrical scope during construction including contractor coordination, submittal reviews, and RFI responses. Conduct site inspections to verify installation quality and code compliance. Oversee commissioning activities including integrated systems testing, load bank testing, and parallel operation verification. Technical Leadership Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design teams. Review electrical calculations, protective device coordination studies, arc flash analyses, and short circuit studies. Collaborate with mechanical engineers on infrastructure interdependencies and with IT teams on power requirements. Standards & Compliance Ensure adherence to data center industry standards (ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, TIA-942). Maintain compliance with electrical safety standards, energy codes, and sustainability requirements. Support LEED certification efforts where applicable. Client & Stakeholder Management Communicate technical concepts to clients and non-technical stakeholders. Participate in design meetings, provide progress updates, and resolve technical issues. Support business development through technical proposal development. Required Qualifications Education & Licensure Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months. Experience 5-10 years of electrical engineering experience with minimum 3 years focused on data center or mission-critical facilities (hospitals, financial trading floors, telecom facilities). Demonstrated experience with medium voltage systems (15kV typical) and large-scale UPS systems (1MW+). Technical Skills Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SKM PowerTools or ETAP). Strong understanding of power distribution equipment including switchgear, transformers, automatic transfer switches, PDUs, and generator paralleling systems. Knowledge of redundancy architectures (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1) and maintenance bypass configurations. Industry Knowledge Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier classifications, ASHRAE thermal guidelines, and data center efficiency metrics (PUE, DCiE). Understanding of emerging technologies including lithium-ion UPS, high-voltage DC distribution, and renewable energy integration. Preferred Qualifications Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center environments. LEED AP or data center-specific certifications (CDCP, CDCE). Exposure to modular/prefabricated data center solutions. Knowledge of building management systems and DCIM platforms. Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. Detail-oriented with strong quality focus. Collaborative team player with client-service mindset.
