Position: Diploma Engineer Trainee (DET) – Mechanical

1. Purpose of the Role
The Diploma Engineer Trainee (DET) – Mechanical will support the Automatic Assembly Department in operating, monitoring, maintaining, and continuously improving automated and semi-automated assembly lines used in the manufacturing of electrical terminal blocks. The role focuses on developing technical competence in mechatronics systems while ensuring productivity, quality, safety, and equipment reliability.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Production & Operations
Operate automatic and semi-automatic assembly machines as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Assist in setting up machines for different terminal block models, changeovers, and line balancing.
Monitor cycle time, output, and machine performance to meet daily production targets.
Ensure adherence to production plans, takt time, and shift schedules.
B. Machine & System Support (Mechatronics)
Support troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic PLC-related issues.
Assist in sensor alignment, actuator functioning, servo motors, conveyors, feeders, and indexing mechanisms.
Coordinate with maintenance team during breakdowns and preventive maintenance activities.
Record machine downtime, root causes, and corrective actions.
C. Quality Assurance
Follow quality standards, control plans, and inspection guidelines for electrical terminal blocks.
Perform in-process inspections and basic dimensional and visual checks.
Identify defects related to assembly, fitment, torque, crimping, and alignment.
Support implementation of poka-yoke systems and quality improvement actions.
D. Safety, 5S & Compliance
Strictly follow safety rules, electrical safety norms, and machine guarding requirements.
Ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
Participate in 5S, TPM, Kaizen, and safety audits in the department.
Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.
E. Continuous Improvement & Documentation
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve OEE, reduce scrap, and minimize downtime.
Assist in updating SOPs, work instructions, checklists, and maintenance logs.
Participate in time studies, process mapping, and productivity improvement projects.
Learn and apply lean manufacturing concepts.
F. Learning & Development
Undergo structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) in automatic assembly, mechatronics systems, and manufacturing processes.
Develop multi-skilling across machines and processes in the assembly line.
Actively learn company products, drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
3. Educational Qualification
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
4. Technical Skills & Knowledge
Basic knowledge of:
Mechanical systems, gears, cams, bearings, and fixtures
Electrical basics, sensors, relays, motors, and wiring
Pneumatics and hydraulics
PLC basics (inputs/outputs, ladder logic – exposure level)
Automation components like feeders, conveyors, actuators
Ability to read basic engineering drawings and schematics
Basic understanding of manufacturing quality and inspection tools
