Job Description – Bending Machine Operator
Position Title
Bending Machine Operator (CNC Press Brake Operator)
Job Purpose
To set up and operate CNC/NC Press Brake and bending machines for forming sheet metal components as per engineering drawings, quality requirements, and production schedules while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
Set up and operate CNC/NC Press Brake machines.
Install and align punches, dies, and tooling as per job requirements.
Select programs and verify bending sequences.
Perform trial bends and make necessary corrections.
Operate machines to produce components within specified tolerances.
Production Activities
Read and interpret engineering drawings, bend schedules, and work instructions.
Verify material specifications before bending operations.
Ensure correct orientation and bend sequence of components.
Meet daily production targets while maintaining quality standards.
Minimize scrap generation and handling damage.
Quality Assurance
Verify bend angles, dimensions, and part geometry.
Conduct first-off and in-process inspections.
Use measuring instruments including:
Vernier caliper
Protractor
Height gauge
Angle gauge
Measuring tape
Ensure finished components comply with drawing requirements and customer specifications.
Tooling & Machine Care
Maintain tooling in good condition.
Inspect punches and dies for wear and damage.
Conduct routine machine checks and lubrication.
Report machine abnormalities and breakdowns promptly.
Maintain proper records of machine performance.
Safety & Housekeeping
Follow all safety procedures while operating bending machines.
Use appropriate PPE and handling equipment.
Maintain workplace cleanliness and organization.
Participate in safety audits and continuous improvement programs.
Required Qualifications
ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Fitter, Fabrication, or related trade.
CNC Press Brake training preferred.
Experience
2–5 years of experience in sheet metal bending operations.
Experience with CNC Press Brake machines preferred.
Technical Skills
CNC/NC Press Brake operation.
Tool selection and setup.
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
Knowledge of bend allowance and bend deduction concepts.
Inspection and measurement techniques.
Understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
