Legal Counsel, Commercial Lawyer - WPP Legal (Mumbai, India) Why we're hiring: An exciting opportunity for a commercially astute Legal Counsel to be based in our legal centre of excellence in Mumbai but work closely with our London-based team and colleagues globally. Reporting to a locally based Senior Legal Counsel, this role will provide practical, focused legal expertise to our agency commercial and client teams supporting the APAC markets and UK. This position offers unparalleled exposure to a diverse range of client contracts, sponsorship agreements and content partnerships within the dynamic media and entertainment sector. We're looking for a passionate and energetic individual who thrives on autonomy and responsibility within a fast-paced in-house legal environment, working alongside exceptional lawyers. What you'll be doing: Drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of complex commercial contracts, including client agreements (particularly for media planning and buying services) and vendor contracts (such as advertising and advertising technology services, and influencer engagements). Providing legal support and expert advice to WPP agencies (particularly media agencies and new business teams) in UK and APAC markets, supporting WPP’s global legal team and other markets, as needed. Training stakeholders on critical legal issues impacting the media and marketing industry. Actively supporting client pitches and renegotiations. Collaborating with the global WPP Legal team to ensure consistency and uphold high professional standards. What you'll need: Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience. Essential proven experience in drafting commercial contracts, media experience is preferred but not essential. Strong working knowledge of contract law, data privacy law, artificial intelligence regulations, and intellectual property. Commercial thinker – ability to understand the tensions between commercial objectives and legal requirements, and resolve those tensions Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations and develop strategic approaches for commercial transactions. Collaborative team player, relationship builder with a can-do attitude, lots of energy and drive required with a well-structured and precise way of working Excellent communication skills, working effectively across multidisciplinary teams and jurisdictions. Ability to explain legal issues clearly without jargon to commercial teams and clients Fluent English (written and spoken) is essential.
