Core Daily Responsibilities

1. Feeding & Watering

Maintain Schedules: Ensure feeders are filled with appropriate age-specific feed (starter, grower, layer, or broiler feed) at set daily times.

Water Sanitation: Check automatic drinkers or nipples daily; scrub and refresh water troughs to prevent bacterial growth.

Nutritional Additives: Mix in calcium supplements (oyster shells) for laying hens or vitamins/electrolytes during hot weather when needed.

3. Coop Maintenance & Sanitation

Litter Management: Turn or replace damp bedding (wood shavings or straw) to keep ammonia levels low and prevent bumblefoot or respiratory issues.

Manure Removal: Regularly clean drop boards, coops, or cage trays.

Biosecurity: Disinfect boots at footbaths before entering different sheds to stop the spread of disease.

4. Flock Health & Welfare

Visual Inspection: Monitor birds for signs of illness (lethargy, pale combs, coughing, unusual droppings, or isolation).

Mortality Checks: Promptly remove and log any deceased birds according to farm disposal protocols.

Pest & Predator Control: Inspect fences, mesh, and doors for signs of rodents, snakes, or predators.

Essential Skills & Safety Precautions

Physical Stamina: Ability to lift feed bags (20–25 kg) and spend long hours on foot.

Dust & Ammonia Safety: Wear appropriate dust masks or respirators during coop cleanouts.

Handling Technique: Hold chickens gently by supporting the body and securing the wings to reduce stress and prevent injury to the bird
