Job Title: Plastic Injection Moulding Machine Operator
Department: Production – Engineering Plastics
Reports To: Production Supervisor / Shift In-charge
Job Summary
The Plastic Injection Moulding Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining injection moulding machines to produce high-quality engineering plastic components as per production targets, quality standards, and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation
Set up and operate plastic injection moulding machines.
Start up and shut down machines as per standard operating procedures.
Load only properly dried plastic granules in to the Hopper & also busbars in to the mould accurately everytime.
Monitor machine parameters (Hourly target Vs. Avchievements, Escalation sheet etc).
Perform minor machine adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
2. Production & Productivity
Achieve shift production targets as per planning.
Eliminate rejections
Minimize cycle time while maintaining quality.
Reduce machine downtime by working as per SOP and promptly reporting issues if any in the escalation sheet.
Maintain proper production records and log sheets.
Perform minor/daily routine machine maintenance.
3. Quality Control
Inspect moulded parts for:
Short moulding
Flash
Sink marks
Warpage
Burn marks
Busbar damages
Use measuring & monitoring instruments (like position, pin, thread gauges etc).
Segregate rejected parts and inform the supervisor immediately.
Follow Quality management standards (as per SOP).
4. Material Handling
Ensure the correct material is used as per the Quality plan/process data sheet.
Avoid material wastage (like drooling, spillage, stepping on and ensure proper regrind / reprocessed material usage wherever applicable.
Ensure plastic granules are properly dried before use for moulding. If in doubt, have the moisture content tested by the QA department.
5. Safety & Housekeeping
Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
Maintain 5S standards on and around the machine.
Keep work area clean and organized.
Avoid unsafe practices and report hazards.
Use correct bins for storing rejected parts, moulded parts, runners and disposals
6. Maintenance Support
Perform basic preventive maintenance checks according to the checklist.
Report any mould, heater band, thermocouple, or hydraulic issues.
Inform the team leaders about the problems noticed clearly and in detail.
Assist maintenance team during breakdowns.
Required Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of injection moulding process.
Understanding of plastic materials.
Ability to read & understand basic production drawings/images for testing & checking purposes.
Basic knowledge of mould changing procedures. (Like mould loading preparations, clamping, using proepr toolings)
Good discipline and punctuality.
Ability to work in shifts.
Qualification & Experience
10th standard pass, ITI / Diploma in Mechanical / Plastic Technology (preferred).
1–5 years experience in injection moulding (preferably automotive plastic parts).
Freshers with technical background may be considered as trainees.
