Phlebotomist

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Drawing Blood:

   • Perform venipunctures and fingersticks on patients of all ages.

   • Collect blood specimens for lab testing, transfusions, donations, or research.

2. Patient Identification & Interaction:

   • Verify patient identity using proper protocols (name, ID, DOB).

   • Explain procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety or fear.

3. Labeling & Handling Specimens:

   • Label blood samples accurately and ensure correct documentation.

   • Ensure samples are stored and transported under proper conditions.

4. Infection Control & Safety:

   • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow hygiene protocols.

   • Dispose of needles and sharps according to safety regulations.

5. Record Keeping:

   • Maintain detailed and accurate records of blood draws and patient data.

   • Update electronic health records (EHRs) as required.

6. Equipment Maintenance:

   • Prepare and maintain phlebotomy tools, needles, tubes, and collection devices.

   • Report equipment malfunctions and replenish supplies.

7. Support Clinical Teams:

   • Collaborate with nurses, doctors, and lab technicians to support patient care.

   • Assist with additional clinical duties if required (e.g., vital signs, specimen transport).
