Phlebotomist

As a phlebotomist, you'll be responsible for safely and accurately collecting blood samples from patients using established procedures, ensuring proper sample handling and labeling, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Responsibilities:

• Patient Interaction:

  • Identify patients and verify their information accurately.

  • Explain the blood collection procedure to patients in a clear and compassionate manner.

  • Reassure patients and address their concerns or questions.

  • Maintain a professional and empathetic demeanor while interacting with patients.

• Blood Collection:

  • Perform venipuncture (drawing blood from a vein) and other blood collection techniques (e.g., capillary punctures).

  • Select appropriate Vacutainer tubes and needles based on the type of test required.

  • Ensure proper blood collection techniques to prevent contamination or hemolysis (red blood cell damage).

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

• Sample Handling and Labeling:

  • Label blood samples correctly and accurately with patient information and test requests.

  • Ensure proper sample handling and storage to maintain sample integrity.

  • Transport samples to the laboratory in a timely manner.

• Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of blood collection procedures and sample results.

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.

• Safety and Hygiene:

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and infection control measures.

  • Properly dispose of used needles and other sharps.

  • Ensure that all equipment is properly sanitized and maintained.

• Other Duties:

  • Assist with other phlebotomy-related tasks as needed.

  • Participate in phlebotomy training and continuing education.

  • Stay current with phlebotomy best practices and emerging technologies. 

Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in venipuncture and other blood collection techniques. 

  • Familiarity with Vacutainer tubes and other blood collection equipment. 

  • Ability to identify veins and select appropriate puncture sites. 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 

• Soft Skills:

• Education and Experience:
