Job Title: L2 Network Engineer

Position Overview
The L2 Network Engineer will be responsible for providing advanced technical support and ensuring the smooth functioning of customer and internal network infrastructure. This role involves handling escalated incidents, performing network configurations, optimizing performance, and ensuring uptime as per SLAs. The candidate will work closely with L1 teams, OEM vendors, and senior engineers to maintain a secure and reliable network environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Operations & Troubleshooting
Handle L2-level incidents, escalations, and service requests across LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and security devices.
Troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, access points, controllers, load balancers, and MPLS circuits.
Conduct root-cause analysis and provide permanent corrective actions.
2. Network Configuration & Changes
Configure and support routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP.
Manage VLANs, STP, trunking, ACLs, NAT, DHCP, and QoS.
Support firewall rule changes, VPN configurations, SD-WAN setups, and network migrations.
Perform maintenance activities and implement approved change requests.
3. Monitoring & Optimization
Monitor network health using SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or similar tools.
Analyze performance metrics and optimize network availability.
Ensure adherence to SLA and uptime commitments.
4. Collaboration & Support
Work closely with L1 engineers, technical specialists, and OEM TAC for issue resolution.
Engage with customers professionally to update status and closure details.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to junior team members.
5. Documentation
Maintain updated network diagrams, asset inventory, configuration backups, and SOPs.
Prepare RCA reports, incident summaries, and compliance documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Engineering, or similar field.
2–5 years of hands-on experience in enterprise network management/support.
Strong expertise in:
Routing & Switching (Cisco/HP/Juniper)
Firewalls (Cisco ASA, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Sophos)
VPN (IPSec/SSL), MPLS, SD-WAN
Wireless networks & controllers
Familiar with ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Remedy, ManageEngine, etc.)
Solid analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Experience working in ITIL-based environments.
Preferred Certifications
CCNA / CCNP (Enterprise / R&S)
Fortinet NSE 4 / Palo Alto PCNSA
ITIL v3/v4 Foundation
