A Kitchen Helper (or Kitchen Assistant) supports culinary staff by performing essential tasks like basic food prep (washing, cutting), cleaning & sanitizing workstations, dishes, and equipment, stocking supplies, managing waste, and ensuring food safety standards are met, all to keep the kitchen running smoothly and efficiently for chefs and servers.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
Wash, peel, chop vegetables/fruits; portion ingredients; assist with basic cooking tasks.
Cleaning & Sanitation:
Wash dishes, pots, utensils; clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, equipment, and floors; empty trash and liners.
Stocking & Organization:
Receive, unload, and store food deliveries; organize supplies; restock ingredients and kitchen items.
Kitchen Maintenance:
Sweep, mop; maintain cleanliness of work areas; check and report inventory levels.
Support:
Assist chefs and cooks as needed; pack takeout orders; bus tables.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene.
Ability to stand for long periods and lift items.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Basic cleaning and food handling skills.
High school diploma/GED (often preferred).
