Job Description – ETP Operator, Yarn Division

Department: ETP / Yarn Division

Industry: Woollen / Blended Yarn Manufacturing

Reporting To: Production Manager / Factory Manager

Location: E-55/56, Bichwal Industrial Area, Bikaner, Rajasthan

Job Purpose:

To independently operate and monitor the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for the Yarn Division and ensure that wastewater generated from yarn washing, scouring, bleaching, dyeing and other wet-processing activities is treated effectively and consistently within prescribed pollution-control norms.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate the complete ETP including collection/equalization tanks, dosing systems, aeration tanks, clarifiers, pumps, blowers, filters and sludge-handling equipment.

Monitor wastewater coming from yarn washing and other wet-processing operations, particularly changes in pH, colour, chemical load and flow.

Check and maintain required parameters including pH, TDS, COD, BOD, DO, MLSS and treated-water quality.

Carry out correct dosing of lime, alum/PAC, polyelectrolyte, caustic/acid and other ETP chemicals according to wastewater conditions.

Adjust chemical dosing when the incoming effluent characteristics change due to different yarn-processing batches.

Monitor biological treatment, aeration and sludge settling and take corrective action when treatment performance changes.

Operate filter press/sludge dewatering system and manage sludge safely.

Collect inlet, intermediate and outlet water samples and coordinate laboratory testing.

Maintain daily ETP log sheets recording inlet/outlet parameters, flow, chemical consumption, operating hours and abnormalities.

Monitor pumps, blowers, motors, pipelines, valves and dosing equipment and coordinate preventive maintenance.

Ensure that no untreated or improperly treated wastewater is discharged.

Immediately report abnormal pH, excessive colour, high COD/BOD, poor settling, excessive foam, odour or equipment failure.

Coordinate with the yarn production/washing department when a process or chemical change creates an unusual load on the ETP.

Maintain ETP housekeeping, chemical storage and PPE/safety requirements.

Assist in maintaining records required for pollution-control inspections and statutory compliance.

Ensure treated water and ETP operation comply with applicable RSPCB/CPCB requirements and the factory's consent conditions.

Qualification: ITI / Diploma / B.Sc. or relevant technical qualification preferred.

Experience: 2–5 years of ETP operating experience, preferably in a woollen yarn, textile dyeing, yarn washing, scouring or textile wet-processing unit.

Candidate should have practical knowledge of: ETP chemical dosing; pH correction; biological treatment; COD/BOD control; aeration and sludge settling; filter press operation; wastewater sampling/testing; pumps and blowers; and ETP record keeping.

Preferred Candidate: A hands-on operator who can independently run the ETP, identify changes in wastewater coming from yarn processing, adjust treatment accordingly, and coordinate with production before an ETP problem develops.
