Experience Level: 2–5+ years
Project Scope: 3kW (Small Residential) – 500kW (Large Commercial/Industrial)
The Solar Installer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of PV installations. For smaller 3kW systems, you will focus on high-quality residential aesthetics and single-phase wiring. For 500kW systems, you will lead or support large-scale deployments involving three-phase power, heavy mounting structures, and complex grid-tie configurations.
System Layout: Interpret blueprints and electrical schematics for both residential (string inverters/micro-inverters) and large commercial (central/string inverters) projects.
Mechanical Assembly: Install racking systems on various roof types (metal, tile, RCC) and ground-mount structures.
Electrical Wiring: Perform DC and AC wiring, including the installation of junction boxes, DCDB/ACDB panels, and earthing/lightning protection systems.
Commissioning: Test and commission systems up to 500kW, ensuring proper polarity, VOC/ISC levels, and grid synchronization.
Site Surveys: Conduct shading analysis and structural assessments for projects of all scales.
Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to OSHA or local safety standards, specifically regarding fall protection on roofs and high-voltage electrical safety.
Team Coordination: For 100kW+ projects, coordinate with crane operators, civil contractors, and junior technicians.
Diagnose system underperformance using multimeters, clamp meters, and thermal cameras.
Perform routine O&M (Operations & Maintenance) including panel cleaning, terminal tightening, and inverter firmware updates.
Skill Category Requirements Electrical Proficiency in Single-Phase (up to 5kW) and Three-Phase (up to 500kW+) systems.
Components Deep knowledge of Mono/Bifacial modules, String vs. Micro-inverters, and Net-metering.
Tools Expertise with power drills, grinders, crimping tools, and PV analyzers.
Softwares Basic familiarity with monitoring apps (e.g., SolarEdge, FusionSolar) or design tools like PVsyst/Helioscope (preferred).
CertificationITI/Diploma in Electrical or NABCEP/Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) certification.
