8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Saturday (2nd Saturday & 4th Saturday off)

ABOUT VIDYA & CHILD

Vidya & Child works in marginalised communities, exploring the unique potential in each child by providing opportunities for value-integrated learning and development. The organisation currently focuses its work in Noida, India, supported by international and national corporate, funding organisations and individual donors. It runs a School Education Programme for Nursery to Class 8, serving close to 1,600 children, and an After School Support Programme reaching over 350 children from Class IX to Class XII and beyond.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Teacher for Nursery to Class 2 is responsible for laying the foundation of a child’s education through joyful, play-based and child-centric learning. The role goes beyond classroom teaching to nurture each child’s social, emotional, physical and creative development, and to build a long-term, trusted relationship with the child and family.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and deliver age-appropriate, activity-based lessons (language, numeracy, and theme-based learning) that make learning enjoyable and connected to real life

• Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, bias-free classroom; manage routines, discipline and daily classroom logistics (attendance, materials, textbooks)

• Track and record each child’s progress, learning level, and behaviour; prepare periodic reports and flag children needing extra support or special attention

• Conduct life-skills and reflection sessions to support children’s emotional and social development

• Engage regularly with parents through home visits, PTMs and parent meetings to build sustained family involvement in the child’s education

• Participate in academic planning meetings, monthly training sessions, and centre-level events, activities and substitution duties as required

• Collaborate with fellow teachers and the academic team, and uphold the organisation’s values of inclusion, positivity and non-discrimination

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Graduate, preferably with a diploma/degree in early childhood education or teaching (ECCEd / NTT / D.El.Ed / B.Ed)

• 2–3 years of direct classroom experience with children in the Nursery to Class 2 age group

• Experience in the development sector or with children from low-income families is an advantage

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

• Patience, empathy and adaptability; understanding of child psychology and development

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including with parents

• Well organised, methodical, and detail-oriented in tracking each child’s progress

• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet

• Good command over Hindi (written & spoken); working knowledge of English preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical presence at the assigned centre is required daily, except non-working Saturdays and Sundays. Candidates with prior teaching experience only should apply; NGO experience is preferred. Residing within Noida, preferably close to the centre, is preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications, as per NGO/social sector standards.
