Role Overview
Position: Human Resources Manager
Department: Administration / Human Resources
Reports To: Managing Partner / Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Nature of Role: Combines strategic workforce planning with the distinct professional needs of attorneys, paralegals, and administrative personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
Source and hire top-tier legal talent, including associate attorneys, paralegals, legal secretaries, and administrative staff.
Manage full-cycle recruitment, crafting competitive offers and conducting onboarding programs.
Compensation, Payroll & Partner Compensation Support
Oversee payroll coordination, accounting for base salaries, billable-hour bonuses, and staff incentives.
Assist executive leadership with benchmarking competitive salary packages and benefits for legal professionals.
Performance Management
Facilitate structured review processes tied to billable hours, client satisfaction, and professional development goals.
Coach firm leaders and department heads on handling employee performance issues and improvement plans.
Employee Relations & Culture
Act as a neutral bridge between firm partners, associates, and support staff.
Manage sensitive workplace grievances, conflict resolution, and disciplinary proceedings with absolute discretion.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to local employment, labor, and workplace safety laws.
Maintain up-to-date employee handbooks and enforce firm policies regarding ethics, confidentiality, and conduct.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s or relevant HR certifications like SHRM-CP/PHR preferred).
Experience: 3 to 7+ years of progressive HR management experience, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
Core Competencies:
Deep understanding of labor regulations and employment standards.
Proficiency in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and payroll software.
Exceptional emotional intelligence, discretion, and negotiation skills.
