Job description of Helpers

A Helper for Smart DT (Distribution Transformer) Meter Installation provides critical

ground support to skilled technicians during field operations. This is an entry-level position

focused on manual labor, material handling, and site preparation under direct supervision.

Job Summary

The Helper assists the main Installation Technician with carrying tools, preparing materials,

mounting equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe workspace. This role is essential for speeding

up the installation process and ensuring the technician can work efficiently and safely on the

distribution grid.

Key Responsibilities

Material Handling & Tool Management

 Transport heavy equipment, including smart meters, SMC boxes, distribution cables,

and mounting brackets, from the utility vehicle to the transformer site.

 Organize and hand over the correct tools (such as crimping tools, screwdrivers,

spanners, and insulated pliers) to the technician during the installation.

 Load and unload inventory at the field vehicle and ensure all materials are accounted

for before leaving the warehouse.

Site Preparation & Mounting Support

 Assist in mounting SMC boxes and holding brackets onto electricity poles or

transformer structures.

 Help route, pull, and straighten heavy power cables to prepare them for the technician

to cut and terminate.

 Hold ladders, safety nets, or guide ropes firmly to secure the technician when they are

working at heights.

Safety & Housekeeping

 Strictly wear all required PPE, including safety helmets, high-visibility vests, safety

shoes, and basic hand gloves at all times.

 Clean the workspace by removing discarded wires, old insulation, packing materials,

and debris after the installation is complete.

 Set up safety cones and barricades around the transformer site to keep pedestrians and

traffic at a safe distance.

Administrative Support

 Hold and position the old or new meter so the technician can easily scan barcodes or

take clear photos using the mobile application.

 Guard tools and materials left on the ground while the technician is working on the

overhead transformer.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

 Experience: 1 to 2 year of experience in electrical work, construction, or general field

labor (Freshers are welcome).

 Education: 10th Pass / 12th Pass, or an entry-level ITI (Electrical) certification.

 Physical Stamina: Must be physically fit and capable of lifting up to 20–25 kg, climbing

ladders, and standing for long periods outdoors in varying weather conditions.

 Traits: Ability to follow strict spoken instructions, punctual, and highly conscious of

electrical grid hazards.
