Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Senior Caregiver / Patient Care Executive with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in elderly and patient care.

The selected caregiver will be responsible for the end-to-end daily care and well-being of senior residents, including elderly persons who may have restricted mobility or may be bedridden.

The candidate should be comfortable with personal care, hygiene, mobility assistance, vital monitoring, medication assistance as prescribed, companionship, basic rehabilitation exercises and coordination with nurses, doctors, physiotherapists and family members.

This position requires a person who combines professional caregiving skills with patience, empathy and genuine concern for senior citizens.

Key Responsibilities

1. Complete Elderly & Patient Care

• Provide end-to-end assistance to assigned senior residents.

• Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and maintaining personal hygiene.

• Help seniors with eating, drinking and other activities of daily living.

• Assist with walking, wheelchair movement and safe transfers between bed, chair and washroom.

• Provide special attention to seniors with limited mobility.

• Provide proper care to bedridden patients, including repositioning and comfort measures to help reduce the risk of pressure injuries.

• Maintain the senior's room, bed and immediate surroundings in a clean, hygienic and safe condition.

2. Basic Health Monitoring & Nursing Assistance

The candidate should have hands-on experience in:

• Measuring and recording blood pressure (BP).

• Checking blood glucose/sugar levels using a glucometer.

• Monitoring temperature, pulse and other basic vital signs.

• Maintaining daily records of vital parameters and promptly reporting abnormalities.

• Supporting medication schedules strictly according to authorised medical instructions.

• Recognising warning signs such as unusual weakness, breathing difficulty, dizziness, falls, sudden confusion or abnormal vital signs and immediately escalating them to the nurse/doctor.

• Supporting appropriately qualified nursing personnel with patient-care activities.

Important: Administration of injections, wound care or any other clinical procedure must only be performed where the employee possesses the required nursing qualification/competency and the procedure is authorised under the treating doctor's/organisation's clinical protocol.

3. Mobility, Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Support

• Assist seniors with doctor/physiotherapist-prescribed exercises.

• Support range-of-motion and mobility exercises.

• Encourage safe walking and physical activity according to the senior's condition.

• Help bedridden residents with appropriate positioning and prescribed movement exercises.

• Coordinate with the physiotherapist and follow the prescribed rehabilitation plan.

• Observe mobility difficulties and promptly report changes to the medical/nursing team.

4. Massage & Comfort Care

• Provide gentle therapeutic/comfort massage where appropriate and advised.

• Candidate with knowledge of basic acupressure points and relaxation techniques will be preferred.

• Use such techniques only as supportive wellness measures and not as a substitute for prescribed medical treatment.

• Ensure the senior remains comfortable and safe throughout.

5. Emotional Care & Companionship

We are particularly looking for someone who understands that seniors need emotional care as much as physical care.

The caregiver should:

• Spend quality time with residents.

• Listen patiently and communicate respectfully.

• Encourage seniors to participate in activities and interact with others.

• Provide companionship to residents experiencing loneliness or emotional distress.

• Maintain patience while dealing with elderly persons who may repeat themselves or require additional assistance.

• Protect every resident's privacy, dignity and independence.

• Never use harsh language, disrespectful behaviour, neglect or unnecessary force.

6. Bedridden & High-Dependency Patient Care

Prior experience with bedridden or high-dependency elderly patients is strongly preferred.

The candidate should be comfortable with:

• Bed bathing and personal hygiene.

• Changing clothes, linen and adult diapers.

• Safe turning and repositioning.

• Feeding assistance.

• Toileting and continence support.

• Wheelchair and transfer assistance.

• Maintaining cleanliness and infection-control practices.

• Observing skin condition and immediately reporting redness, wounds or other concerns.

• Maintaining the patient's comfort and dignity at all times.

7. Daily Monitoring & Reporting

• Maintain accurate daily care records.

• Record BP, blood sugar and other assigned observations.

• Record meals, hydration, medication assistance, exercise and significant behavioural/physical changes where required.

• Immediately communicate any deterioration or unusual symptoms to the responsible nurse/doctor/supervisor.

• Provide proper handover to the next caregiver at shift change.

• Coordinate professionally with residents' families when authorised.

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in elderly care, patient care, home healthcare, hospital care, assisted living, nursing home or a similar environment.

• Demonstrable experience caring for senior citizens and bedridden patients.

• Ability to check BP and blood sugar accurately.

• Knowledge of basic patient hygiene and infection-control practices.

• Experience in mobility and transfer assistance.

• Understanding of medication schedules and basic health monitoring.

• Ability to identify and report medical warning signs.

• Basic understanding of physiotherapy/rehabilitation exercises prescribed for elderly patients.

• Excellent personal hygiene and professional conduct.

Preferred:

• ANM/GNM/Nursing Assistant/General Duty Assistant (GDA)/Patient Care Assistant or relevant healthcare/caregiver certification.

• Experience working in a hospital, senior living centre, rehabilitation centre, nursing home or professional home-care organisation.

• Knowledge of elderly massage/relaxation techniques.

• Basic knowledge of acupressure.

• CPR/BLS/First Aid certification.

• Experience in dementia/Alzheimer's care will be an added advantage.
