Roles & Responsibilities
operating and maintaining treatment equipment, monitoring water quality through sampling and testing, adjusting chemical dosages, and ensuring the plant complies with environmental regulations
Equipment operation and maintenance:
Operate, inspect, and maintain equipment like pumps, valves, filters, and control systems to ensure efficient and safe operation. This includes performing preventive maintenance tasks like cleaning, lubricating, and repairing equipment.
Water quality monitoring:
Collect water samples from various stages of the treatment process and perform tests to check parameters such as pH, chlorine levels, temperature, and biological content. They also use computer systems like SCADA to monitor plant processes and readings.
Process adjustments:
Adjust chemical dosages, such as chlorine or lime, and other treatment processes based on test results and operational data to ensure the wastewater meets regulatory standards.
Troubleshooting and emergency response:
Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and operational problems. Operators must be able to respond to equipment alarms and emergency situations, such as chemical leaks or spills.
Regulatory compliance and reporting:
Monitor and ensure the facility operates in compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations. This involves maintaining accurate operational records and preparing reports for regulatory agencies.
Record keeping:
Maintain detailed records of operational data, test results, maintenance activities, and chemical inventory. This documentation is crucial for tracking performance and demonstrating compliance.
