A Welder/Fitter constructs, fabricates, and repairs metal structures by reading blueprints, cutting, shaping, and joining metal parts using various welding techniques (MIG, ARC), ensuring precision fit-up (fitting), and adhering to safety/quality standards, often working as a team with other trades.
Key Responsibilities:
Fabrication & Assembly:
Fit and assemble components, tack-weld them in place, and perform final welding on diverse metal structures.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine specifications.
Material Preparation:
Cut, grind, and prepare metal materials to required dimensions and shapes.
Welding:
Apply various welding processes (MIG, ARC, etc.) to join metals, selecting appropriate techniques and equipment.
Quality Control:
Inspect and test welds for precision, integrity, and adherence to standards using measuring tools.
Maintenance:
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas, ensuring good housekeeping and safety.
Collaboration:
Coordinate with other workers (fabricators, supervisors) to meet project deadlines.
Safety:
Follow strict safety protocols, wearing PPE like helmets, goggles, and gloves
