A Vision Technician (or Optometric/Ophthalmic Technician) supports eye care professionals by conducting preliminary vision tests, managing patient records, and assisting in diagnostic procedures like visual acuity, tonometry, and imaging. They prepare exam rooms, educate patients on lens usage, and ensure equipment maintenance, usually requiring a high school diploma with training in ophthalmic technology.

Key responsibilities
Performing preliminary tests such as auto-refraction, tonometry (eye pressure), lensometry, and visual field tests.

Assisting optometrists/ophthalmologists with examinations, procedures, and administering eye drops under supervision.

Cleaning, sterilizing, and calibrating ophthalmic instruments (e.g., OCT, phoropter).
Instructing patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and proper care.

Scheduling appointments, managing electronic health records (EHR), and handling billing or insurance.
