Job Description – Phlebotomist

Position: Phlebotomist

Experience: 1–5 Years
Salary: ₹15,000 – ₹30,000 per month

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and responsible Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The candidate will be responsible for collecting blood and other clinical samples safely and efficiently, ensuring proper patient identification, sample labeling, handling, and transportation while maintaining high standards of hygiene and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform blood collection/phlebotomy using appropriate venipuncture and capillary sampling techniques.

• Collect blood and other specimens as per laboratory requirements.

• Verify patient details and ensure correct patient identification before sample collection.

• Properly label, document, store, and transport collected samples.

• Handle patients professionally, particularly children, elderly patients, and patients who may be anxious about blood collection.

• Maintain proper hygiene, infection-control, and bio-safety protocols during sample collection.

• Ensure proper disposal of needles, syringes, and other biomedical waste according to applicable safety procedures.

• Monitor and maintain adequate stock of phlebotomy supplies and inform the concerned team when replenishment is required.

• Maintain accurate records of samples collected and ensure timely handover to the laboratory.

• Handle difficult veins and repeat collections professionally when required.

• Identify and report any sample-related issues such as hemolysis, insufficient quantity, improper labeling, or contamination.

• Coordinate with laboratory staff, nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals as required.

• Provide a comfortable and reassuring experience to patients throughout the sample collection process.

• Follow all laboratory SOPs, quality standards, and infection-control guidelines.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of venipuncture and blood collection techniques.

• Good understanding of sample handling, labeling, storage, and transportation.

• Knowledge of infection control and biomedical waste management.

• Ability to handle different types of patients professionally.

• Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as within a healthcare/laboratory team.

• Basic computer and documentation skills.

• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.

Qualification

• DMLT / B.Sc. MLT / Diploma or relevant certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Technology.

• Relevant phlebotomy certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

• 1–5 years of relevant experience in phlebotomy, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, clinics, blood collection centers, or healthcare facilities.

• Candidates with experience in home sample collection will be preferred where applicable.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be patient-focused, hygienic, detail-oriented, reliable, and technically proficient in blood collection, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and follow laboratory safety procedures consistently.

Compensation

₹15,000 – ₹30,000 per month, depending on experience, skills, and suitability for the role.
