Lab Chemist

Lab Chemist – Roles & Responsibilities in STP, ETP & WTP 1. Water & Wastewater Analysis • Collect water and wastewater samples from various treatment stages. • Conduct testing for: o pH o TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) o TSS (Total Suspended Solids) o BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) o COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) o Turbidity o Hardness o Residual Chlorine o Oil & Grease o Microbiological parameters (where applicable) 2. Laboratory Operations • Prepare reagents, chemicals, and standard solutions. • Operate and calibrate laboratory instruments such as: o pH Meter o Spectrophotometer o TDS Meter o COD Reactor o BOD Incubator o Turbidity Meter • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment. 3. Process Monitoring & Control • Monitor treatment efficiency based on laboratory results. • Recommend adjustments in chemical dosing and treatment processes. • Support plant operators in maintaining desired water quality standards. 4. Quality Control & Compliance • Ensure treated water/effluent meets regulatory and client standards. • Maintain compliance with Pollution Control Board norms and environmental regulations. • Prepare analytical reports for audits and inspections. 5. Documentation & Reporting • Maintain laboratory registers and test records. • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly analysis reports. • Record chemical consumption and treatment performance data. 6. Sample Collection & Preservation • Collect influent, process, and treated water samples. • Preserve samples as per standard methods before analysis. • Ensure accurate labeling and traceability. 7. Safety & Housekeeping • Follow laboratory safety procedures and PPE requirements. • Handle chemicals safely and maintain MSDS records. • Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of chemicals and equipment.
