A Lab Assistant in a masterbatches (colorants/additives for plastics) company prepares color samples, conducts quality control tests (dispersion, melt flow), maintains lab equipment, and documents results. They assist technicians in color matching and ensure compliance with safety standards, requiring strong attention to detail, basic chemistry knowledge, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Sample Preparation: Prepare masterbatch samples for testing by blending, extruding, or molding (e.g., using lab-scale extruders or injection molding machines).

• Quality Control Testing: Perform physical and chemical testing of color batches, including color matching against standards, density testing, and melt flow index (MFI) analysis.

• Equipment Maintenance: Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as extruders, spectrometers, and weighing balances.

• Documentation: Record test data accurately in logs and software, ensuring all quality control documents are up to date.

• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols regarding chemical handling and laboratory hygiene.

• Inventory Management: Monitor lab supplies and assist in maintaining inventory levels.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Experience: Previous laboratory experience, preferably in plastics, polymer, or color manufacturing.

• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with plastic raw materials, polymers, and laboratory testing procedures.

• Precision: High attention to detail for precise color matching and weighing of additives.

• Software Skills: Basic computer skills for data entry.

Working Conditions

• This role may require standing for long periods and handling plastic raw materials/color pigments.

• Work is typically performed in a controlled laboratory environment within a manufacturing plant.
