1. Job Purpose
The Merchant Designer will be responsible for developing, designing, and coordinating hospital linen and healthcare textile products, ensuring that designs meet customer requirements, quality standards, functionality, and commercial objectives. The role involves working closely with merchandising, production, sampling, and quality teams to deliver innovative and practical textile solutions for hospitals, healthcare institutions, and commercial clients.
2. Key Responsibilities
· Design hospital linen products such as bedsheets, pillow covers, patient gowns, OT gowns, surgical drapes, curtains, and healthcare uniforms.
· Develop new product concepts based on customer requirements and market trends.
· Prepare design sketches, technical drawings, and product specifications.
· Select suitable fabrics, colors, patterns, trims, and accessories.
· Ensure designs are practical for industrial washing, sterilization, and repeated use.
· Coordinate with merchandising teams to understand customer requirements and product specifications.
· Prepare samples, design presentations, and product development proposals.
· Communicate with customers regarding design modifications and approvals.
· Maintain product development records, sample status, and approval timelines.
· Work with production and quality teams to ensure designs are feasible and meet approved specifications.
· Research hospital textile trends and identify opportunities for product improvement.
· Develop innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective textile products.
3. Required Skills & Competencies
· Strong knowledge of textile design, fabric construction, and garment manufacturing.
· Understanding of hospital linen products and healthcare textile requirements.
· Proficiency in CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar design software.
· Knowledge of textile printing, embroidery, stitching, and finishing techniques.
· Good understanding of color combinations, fabric selection, and product aesthetics.
· Ability to prepare technical specifications and product samples.
· Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
· Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
· Knowledge of costing and material consumption will be an advantage.
4. Educational Qualification & Experience
· Qualification: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Apparel Design, or a related field.
· Experience: 2–5 years of experience in textile design, garment merchandising, or product development. Experience in hospital linen, healthcare textiles, or institutional uniforms is preferred.
· Software: CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and MS Excel.
