Job Description – Heavy Truck Driver

Position: Heavy Truck Driver / HMV Driver
Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Department: Transport / Logistics
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are looking for experienced and responsible Heavy Truck Drivers to operate heavy commercial vehicles for transportation of goods/materials across Chennai and other locations.

The candidate should have a valid HMV/HCV Driving Licence, good driving skills, knowledge of road safety, and experience handling heavy trucks.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy trucks and commercial vehicles for transportation of goods/materials.

• Drive vehicles as per assigned routes and delivery schedules.

• Ensure timely pickup and delivery of materials.

• Handle local and long-distance trips as required.

• Conduct basic daily vehicle checks including tyres, brakes, engine, lights, fuel and other safety components.

• Maintain trip sheets, delivery documents, fuel records and other vehicle-related records.

• Follow all traffic rules, road safety regulations and company policies.

• Ensure the vehicle and transported materials are handled safely.

• Report vehicle breakdowns, accidents, delays or mechanical issues immediately to the supervisor.

• Coordinate with the transport/operations team regarding routes, deliveries and trip schedules.

• Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the assigned vehicle.

• Assist with loading/unloading activities whenever required.

• Take responsibility for the vehicle, goods and documents during the trip.

Eligibility & Requirements

• Valid HMV/HCV Driving Licence is mandatory.

• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in heavy truck/commercial vehicle driving.

• Experience handling heavy trucks, trailers, containers, tippers or tankers will be preferred.

• Good knowledge of Chennai routes and major highways/Tamil Nadu routes.

• Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Good understanding of traffic rules and road safety.

• Clean driving record with responsible driving behaviour.

• Physically fit and comfortable with long-distance driving.

• Willingness to work in shifts and travel outside Chennai when required.

• Tamil communication skills preferred.
