Position Overview
The School Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities. This role requires a high level of responsibility, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers.
Safely operate a school van along assigned routes and schedules.
Pick up and drop off students at designated locations on time.
Ensure the safety of all passengers during loading, unloading, and transit.
Maintain order and follow school behavior policies while students are in the vehicle.
Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
Report any mechanical issues, incidents, or concerns to the transportation supervisor.
Keep the van clean, organized, and in good operating condition.
Follow all traffic laws, school rules, and safety regulations.
Communicate professionally with students, parents, and school staff.
Assist students with special needs or mobility challenges when necessary.
Valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type (CDL or local equivalent, if required).
Clean driving record with no major violations.
Previous experience driving groups or transporting children preferred.
Strong understanding of road safety and defensive driving practices.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and attentive in various situations.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to pass required background checks, drug tests, and physical examinations.
Early morning and afternoon split shifts are common.
Driving in varying weather conditions.
Interaction with students of different ages daily.
