About the Team Recharges & Utilities is a core business pillar for Paytm, spanning 20+ essential categories including Mobile Recharge, Electricity, DTH, and Loans. As a Manager on this team, you will be the “Growth Engine” — using deep data insight to identify opportunities and executing high-impact campaigns to acquire and retain millions of users. The Role: Analytical Execution & Category Growth We're looking for a high-ownership individual who is as comfortable writing SQL queries in Hive as designing a marketing campaign. You will own the full data lifecycle of your assigned categories and use that data to drive P&L growth and user retention — increasingly with AI tools like Claude as your everyday co-pilot for analysis, automation, and campaign creation. Core Roles & Responsibilities 1. Data Operations & Analytics (The “How”) - Data Extraction: Perform daily data extraction and prepare user-readable transaction reports. - Query Management: Write and optimize SQL queries day-to-day to track business health and run ad-hoc deep dives. - Automation: Use Advanced Excel and internal tools to automate recurring reports, streamlining MIS for leadership. - Data Modeling: Translate business questions (e.g. “Why is electricity bill churn increasing?”) into data models that surface actionable answers. - AI-Assisted Analysis: Use Claude or similar AI assistants to draft and debug SQL/queries, summarize large datasets, and produce first-pass insights — then apply your own judgment to validate and sharpen the output before it informs a decision. 2. Growth & Category Management (The “What”) - P&L Support: Help deliver revenue targets by optimizing costs and identifying bottom-line-enhancing strategies. - User Lifecycle: Identify specific user cohorts (e.g. “lapsed rent payers”) and run custom growth campaigns to drive activation and reactivation. - Funnel Optimization: Monitor the user journey from landing to transaction; identify drop-offs and implement funnel improvements. - Retention & GMV: Own key metrics including Daily Active Users (DAU), GMV, and month-on-month (MoM) retention. 3. Marketing & Campaign Execution - ROI Analysis: Measure the performance of every campaign to ensure marketing spend drives efficient growth. - Competitive Intelligence: Track market trends and competitor offerings to keep Paytm's utility categories ahead. - AI-Powered Campaign Ideation: Use Claude/AI copilots to draft campaign briefs, personalize messaging by cohort, and rapidly prototype copy and creative variants for A/B testing. 4. AI-First Working Style This role expects you to treat AI tools as a core part of how you work, not an optional add-on: - Daily AI Fluency: Comfortable using Claude (or a similar AI assistant) as a co-pilot for SQL writing, Excel/report automation, data storytelling, and building stakeholder-ready summaries. - Prompt Craft: Able to break a business problem into clear prompts for AI tools to accelerate first-draft analysis — while retaining the judgment to sense-check and refine anything AI-generated before it's shared or acted on. - Automation Mindset: Proactively spot repetitive MIS/reporting work that can be offloaded to AI tools or scripts, freeing up time for higher-order strategic work. - Responsible Use: Understands data-privacy and confidentiality boundaries when using AI tools with business data (e.g. no PII or sensitive data in external prompts without approval). Superpowers & Skills Required - Experience: 4–6+ years in a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or Growth role (preferably in E-commerce, Retail, or Fintech). - Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel (VBA/Macros a plus) and strong SQL skills; experience with Hive, BigQuery (BQ), or Python for data manipulation. - AI Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience using Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI tools for coding, data analysis, or content generation is a strong plus — and a genuine interest in using AI to work faster is expected. - Analytical Mindset: Background in Engineering, Math, Statistics, or Economics; able to see the story behind the numbers. - Execution Grit: Follows through on projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams (Product, Tech, Marketing) to get things to the finish line. - Communication: Clear, effective communication for sharing updates with stakeholders and senior management.
