Key Responsibilities
Transaction Processing: Scan or ring up items using Point of Sale (POS) systems, cash registers, or barcode scanners.
Payment Handling: Accept cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards, and digital/mobile wallet payments, providing exact change and receipts.
Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, answer questions regarding prices or products, and resolve minor complaints or direct them to management.
Drawer Management: Count cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure accuracy and balance balances against sales reports.
Store Maintenance: Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies (bags, receipt tape, change).
Loss Prevention: Monitor for suspicious behavior, check IDs for age-restricted purchases (alcohol, tobacco), and adhere to store safety and security policies.
Returns and Exchanges: Process merchandise returns, exchanges, and store credit in accordance with company policy.
