Job Summary

The Junior Design Engineer is responsible for preparing, updating, and maintaining mechanical drawings and related documents. The role involves supporting design activities, ensuring proper documentation control, maintaining project records, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the design department.

Key Responsibilities

Standardization & Documentation

• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for mechanical drawing preparation and document control.

• Establish and maintain a structured filing and archiving system for engineering documents and project records.

• Ensure compliance with company standards and engineering practices.

Design & Drafting Activities

• Prepare accurate and detailed mechanical drawings as per project requirements using approved design software.

• Revise and update drawings based on design modifications, customer requirements, or engineering changes.

• Ensure all drawings are completed within specified timelines and quality standards.

Document Management

• Maintain and update project documentation on a regular basis.

• Organize, classify, and archive project records for easy retrieval and reference.

• Ensure all project documents reflect the latest approved revisions.

Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with project teams, production, and other departments to collect design inputs and feedback.

• Incorporate approved changes into drawings and technical documents.

• Participate in weekly project review meetings and design discussions.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Conduct periodic reviews of mechanical drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.

• Perform quality checks on drawings and documents before release.

• Identify opportunities to improve design processes, documentation systems, and workflow efficiency.

• Stay updated with industry trends, design tools, and best engineering practices through continuous learning.

Reporting

• Prepare monthly reports summarizing:

  • Design activities completed

  • Project status updates

  • Challenges encountered and corrective actions taken

  • Process improvement initiatives implemented

• Submit reports to the reporting manager within the specified timeline.

Qualifications

• Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• Freshers or candidates with 0–2 years of experience in mechanical design are preferred.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other mechanical design software.

• Understanding of engineering drawings, drafting standards, and GD&T.

• Strong documentation and record management skills.

• Good communication and teamwork abilities.

• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical components.

• Accuracy of drawings and documentation.

• Timely completion of assigned design tasks.

• Compliance with document control procedures.

• Quality of project record maintenance.

• Number of design improvements suggested and implemented.

• Reduction in drawing errors and revision-related issues.
