Key responsibilities
Client consultation:
Meet with clients to understand their goals, requirements, and budget for the project.
Design and planning:
Analyze how a space will be used and create preliminary designs, including preliminary sketches and detailed blueprints or 3D models.
Select colors, materials, furniture, lighting, and other finishes.
Develop project timelines and estimate costs.
Project management:
Source and order materials and furnishings.
Supervise the installation of design elements.
Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other tradespeople to implement the design.
Ensure the design complies with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
Presentation and communication:
Create mood boards and present design concepts to clients.
Communicate effectively with clients and project team members.
Visit the site after completion to ensure client satisfaction.
Required skills and qualifications
Technical skills: Proficiency in design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp is often required, along with a strong understanding of blueprints.
Creative and aesthetic skills: Creativity, artistic ability, and a keen eye for design are essential.
Project management skills: The ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multiple contractors is crucial for successful project completion.
