Role Overview
As a Field Network Engineer, you will be the face of ACT Fibernet on the ground, responsible for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting our high-speed fiber-optic network infrastructure. You will handle last-mile connectivity, resolve complex technical issues at customer premises, and ensure maximum network uptime and customer satisfaction within your assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning: Deploy and configure Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections, switches, routers, and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs).
Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve physical layer issues (fiber cuts, splicing errors) and logical network issues (routing, IP allocation, Wi-Fi configuration).
Splicing & Testing: Perform fusion splicing and utilize diagnostic tools like OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), optical power meters, and laser pointers to pinpoint faults.
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular audits of field distribution boxes (DPs) and overhead/underground fiber routing to prevent downtime.
SLA Management: Adhere to strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for ticket resolution times and first-time-fix rates.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of networking concepts (OSI model, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and FTTH/GPON architecture.
Hands-on Experience: Proven experience with fiber splicing, structured cabling, and network testing tools.
Certifications (Preferred): CCNA or Network+ certifications are a strong plus.
Mobility: Must possess a valid two-wheeler driving license and a smartphone.
Physical & Soft Skills
Comfortable working in outdoor field conditions, including climbing ladders or poles when required.
Strong customer-facing communication skills to explain technical issues simply.
Ability to work independently and manage a daily queue of service tickets.
