🔧 Core Job Responsibilities of a Passive Technician

1. Structured Cabling Installation

• Install and terminate Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cables.

• Lay and route cables through ducts, conduits, false ceilings, walls, and cable trays.

• Label cables and ports accurately for easy identification.

2. Network Rack Setup

• Install and manage network racks, patch panels, and switches.

• Ensure proper cable dressing and organization in server/network racks.

• Mount and configure cable managers, trays, and accessories.

3. Testing and Certification

• Use testing tools like Fluke testers to test UTP/fiber cabling.

• Certify and troubleshoot cable runs for continuity, performance, and signal loss.

• Rectify cable faults such as short circuits or miswiring.

4. Site Preparation and Coordination

• Coordinate with project engineers for site readiness.

• Prepare materials and tools needed for daily installation tasks.

• Follow layout drawings and as-built plans.

5. Maintenance and Support

• Attend to network cabling issues and perform preventive maintenance.

• Replace damaged or outdated cabling and connectors.

• Keep records of installed and serviced components.

6. Compliance and Safety

• Ensure adherence to safety and industry standards (EIA/TIA, ISO).

• Wear proper PPE and follow company safety protocols at all times.
